THE PIGS ECONOMIST OF THE WEEK...

RUBIN SAYS OIL TO HIT $100

Oil prices will top $100 a barrel again by the fourth quarter, pulling up the Canadian dollar and risking tipping the global economy back into recession, prominent economist Jeff Rubin says. Rubin, a former CIBC World Markets chief economist, argues that the root cause of the worst recession in more than 70 years was not the implosion of the banking system but the overreliance on oil. When energy costs soared, hitting a peak of more than $147 a barrel in July 2008, world economies began crumbling.

"Oil is already back above $80 a barrel, it will certainly be in the $100s by the fourth quarter and definitely higher than that thereafter," Rubin said in an interview. "It could go to $200 a barrel as long as the ascent doesn't blow up the global economies beforehand like it did two years ago."
Unless economies are restructured to reduce reliance on oil another crash is "immensely likely," he said. The oil price has been rising as the engines of global manufacturing rev up after the recession and on a spike in demand because of a cold snap across Europe, Asia and the U.S.

Surging oil prices pose a particular challenge for Canada. With its vast oil reserves, the west of the country stands to benefit as producers ramp up production to meet demand. However, higher oil prices are also likely to mean a stronger Canadian dollar and that will hurt manufacturers in other parts of the country. He predicts the loonie will be at parity with the U.S. dollar by the fourth quarter or before, in tandem with the rising oil price. In the longer term, he said, it could rise as high as $1.25 US. Rubin argues that to break the boom-and-bust cycles that have evolved from heavy dependence on oil, economies need to go local. Any savings gathered from manufacturing in a country where labour is cheaper are swallowed up by transportation costs, he says.

So the next day came and the black woman was up first, the commander ask if she had any last request before she die so she yelled out tornado while ery1 look away she ran away and the commander says oh well and call up the Mexican women. The commander ask the Mexican woman if she had any last request before she die and she yelled out tidal wave, then ery1 look away and she ran, so the commander said oh well again and call for the blonde woman. Before the blonde woman went up she was thinking to herself that the 2 woman before was using natural disaster to make the guard look away so they could run, so when the blonde one was up and the commander ask her if she had any last request and she said FIRE!!!
